Our solar update: 5 years of BioBitcoin participation in the Schafflerhofstraße citizen-owned solar power plant
We are delighted to present you with a very special update from our BioBitcoin project: Our participation in the Schafflerhofstraße citizen-owned solar power plant in Vienna is already in its fifth year!
☀️ Solar power directly from the blockchain
The Citizens' solar power plant Schafflerhofstraße is not only the largest system of its kind in Austria, but also a pioneer in terms of digitalisation: the entire photovoltaic system is managed and controlled using blockchain technology.
Each individual solar module has a digital identity on the blockchain. This means that energy production is documented transparently, securely and tamper-proof. We can use the platform to track exactly how much electricity our solar packages are generating - in real time.
💳 Our credit note this year
Last week it was that time again: our annual solar credit was credited. In total, we have already over 1,324 kWh of solar power has been generated in the last five years - of which last week alone 8.1 kWh.
This means:
- 🌞 8,828 km Drive an electric car
- 💦 490 kg CO₂ savings
- 🚿 Energy for about 490 Shower procedures
We see: Solar power "from citizensinside for citizensinside" has an impact not only locally, but also globally.

🌍 About the power station:
- 6,400 photovoltaic modules
- More than 12 gigawatt hours of annual production
- Supply of approx. 4,900 households
- From April to October: Sheep among the modules for pasture maintenance - a real "double benefit"!
